The type of server will determine what functions it can control.  In your business, you need to communicate, right?  Communication server allows you to create networks, follow up and do your everyday exchange of information.  This allows you to cut on transportation expenses, as everything can be done remotely.

A standalone server covers data protection and back up as it acts as a mirror for other programs, allowing it to reproduce the function of another system.  If you are able to collate you data in one specific location, it will be simpler to look for what you need.

Web server gives you access to the world.  It allows you to transmit information and collect complete data with one click of the mouse.  Having a web server gives you the ability to deal with multiple processes at the same time resulting to efficiency.

These are just to name a few.  Other types of servers such as application, file, fax and database servers have different sets of advantages for your business.  More and more business owners are actually choosing to have their own servers as it gives them a great benefit among others.

However small your business is, you can actually make it seem like it is big with the use of a server.  The idea is to create an illusion by means of having your own domain for example.  People have this thought that only big companies use their own domain.  It is so not true nowadays though, but still it makes a good impression.

Seeing how servers can help you out in your business, can make you think that they are not only servers of some program, but also your business partner.  Learning how to use it for your advantage will surely make your business grow and gain more profit.  Your small business is not going to be small forever; it can be the next multi-national company for all you know.
